Sweet tender mercies

Ok, so I've been really bad at blogging in the past (you might notice my last post was over a year ago...Whoops). Anyway, lately I've really been wanting to get back into it and we had a pretty amazing thing happen to us this weekend so I figured...Why not now?

First of all, Phil got promoted on Friday, which by itself is an awesome thing! And to think he came home on Friday trying to convince me he'd been fired... Lol, silly guy ;)

Anyway, with his promotion came a new route of stores that he's in charge of (he works for Pepsi and has to travel around to several grocery stores and is in charge of the Pepsi products there). And it turns out that the stores he has now are super close to where we live! But this is where the problem comes in... Just last weekend, we signed a contract to buy a condo out in Saratoga Springs, which is about 30 minutes away from here. Well, with this new route, we decided that it probably didn't make sense to get the condo in Saratoga after all, we'd rather stay in the this same area so he could be close to his work. We knew that we could back out of the contract, but we'd lose our earnest money which is $500. So last night we called our realtor to tell him about our situation and see exactly what our options were, and he said, "Wow! The Lord is definitely looking out for you!" He then told us how he had just gotten off the phone with the selling agent and found out that, for some reason, the sellers had called him on Friday and said that they wanted to back out! What?!! We couldn't believe it! So not only does this let us out of the contract, but it saves us 500 bucks, which is kind of a lot of money to us :)

The timing of this was just too perfect (ex: Phil got his new route on Friday, the same day that the sellers suddenly decided to back out...). I know that there's no way this could be a coincidence--the Lord definitely had a hand in this. There's a scripture in the Book of Mormon which I think describes this so well: "“But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." It definitely was a tender mercy from the Lord, and it really did "deliver" us. I just feel so grateful! And seriously, who says miracles don't happen today? While they might not be quite like this one, I know the Lord is blessing us with miracles and tender mercies probably more than we think. We just gotta be on the lookout for them!

P.S. If you want to know more about what "tender mercies" really are, read this talk by Elder Bednar. It's one of my favorites! http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2005/04/the-tender-mercies-of-the-lord?lang=eng
