Welcome to the world, little Asher!

He's here! Our newest little miracle, Asher Kevin Freeman! Due to a few reasons having to do with Phil's work and making sure we for sure had someone to watch Aidan while I was in labor, we decided to induce Asher a few days before his due date. My doctor said it was perfectly fine and we prayed it and felt good about this decision, but even up until the day before the induction, I still felt pretty conflicted about it. Basically, I felt bad for forcing him to come when we wanted him to and not letting him come on his own and choose his own birthday. Despite my concerns, though, we both felt it was the right decision so we went through with it... and soon after delivery I was very grateful that we did! (More on that a little later!)

We got to the hospital about 6:45 am Friday morning. When they got me hooked up to the machines, the nurse asked, "Are you feeling those contractions?" I said, "No... Am I really having contractions right now?" Sure enough I was having contractions that were already very regular and I didn't even know it! I couldn't even feel them at all! I also found out that I was almost dilated to a 5, so my body was right on the cusp of labor by itself even before being induced.

They started the pitocin at 8:15 am, and about an hour later I began to really feel the contractions and decided to get the epidural. By 11:00, it was go-time. Oh, and another good thing about being induced - my doctor was able to make it on time. With Aidan, everything leading up to delivery went so fast that they had to pull in a doctor who was already there at the hospital to deliver him.

Delivery this time was so quick! With Aidan, I was pushing for 2 hours! This time with Asher, it took 3 or 4 big pushes and he was out! 5 minutes at most. A heck of a lot easier than the first time around.

After Asher was out, that's when I became really grateful that we induced. They found that there was a knot in his cord. It wasn't tight, thank goodness, because if it had been he could have died. They don't know if it happened during delivery or in the womb, but I'm so grateful that we got him out when we did before it got tight. Counting our blessings!

Our sweet little Asher was born on Nov 15th, at 11:18 am (well that's what the hospital says at least. Phil is certain that he looked at the clock the second after he came out and the clock said 11:15, which would be pretty cool because it would be 11:15 on 11/15!) He was 7 lbs 2 oz, 20 inches long, and perfect in every way :) We think he looks a lot more like me, whereas Aidan is a spitting image of his daddy. Asher has really big feet and long legs and arms so he's probably going to be a pretty tall fella as he gets older (making daddy happy as he's already planning on his boys becoming future NBA stars ;) ). He's just the sweetest little boy, perfectly healthy, and we feel so blessed to have this adorable new addition to our family! So much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season!!
